100 Years Ago — 1922

Cordwood surprise

Frank Bombino, while hauling a load of cordwood, had the misfortune of breaking the wagon hammer while going up the Caprai grade, causing the load to run back down the grade and the team to run away. Frank found himself piled up by the side of the road, the load at the foot of the hill, and the team at Joe Caprai’s. One horse had fallen down and the other was standing on top of it.

90 Years Ago--1932

Nearing final stage

Marion Boyd returned this week from the head of Priest Lake where he has been working for the government on Snowy Top. He states that the airport under construction on Hughes Meadows will undoubtedly be finished by the latter part of this week. The airport, approximately 300 feet wide by 1800 (not clear) feet long, has been built where little clearing of the land was necessary.

80 Years Ago — 1942

Car drops off ferry

A car driven by a man from Sandpoint, crossing the Pend Oreille on Thama Ferry, started the motor and put his car in gear before the ferry was landed, driving through the safety chain and dropping the front part of the car into the river. No one was injured, but plenty frightened. The ferry was held up for a short time until help arrived,

Field to be lighted

The local Kiwanis Club, with the cooperation of the VFW, the chamber of commerce and other civic organizations have undertaken the project of furnishing floodlights for the high school athletic field.

Youngsters invited

All youngsters up to the age of 14 are invited to take part in the annual Halloween parade sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 2909. Participants will march to city hall from Lud’s Furniture Exchange at 6:30 p.m., Oct 31.

Nordman Store changes hands

The Nordman Club and Store is now under the new management of Mr. and Mrs. Howard G. Rice of Spokane. They are leasing the landmark from E.H. “Lem” Lemburg, who has operated it since 1966.

Bombino hired

Donna Bombino has been hired to take over the position of high school secretary that is being vacated by Ann van Vleet. Bombino, a 1966 P.R.H.S graduate, will take over the job Nov. 1

Leos to man Spook House

The Leos Club is once again hard at work setting up the annual Spook House in the Hotel Charbonneau. The Pumpkin Patch for timid little ones will also be available.
