Column: Eight-man unbeatens to clash
CHUCK BANDEL | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 years, 1 month AGO
If you are an eight-man high school football fanatic, this is what you have been waiting for.
It’s what your scheming football brains have been groomed to handle. All the soup, all the salad, bring on an extra helping of the main course ... we’ve been dieting all week to make sure there’s plenty of room for this one.
Have lots of flatbed trucks standing by to take the satisfied and the dissatisfied away when the final whistle blows.
Let the fans stretch out for the ride home, they are gonna need the rest, win or lose.
Ratchet up the superlative machine and make sure it has new drive belts… “It doesn’t get any better than this, eh dude?” ... "we’ve been waiting all year for this one.” Coupla unbeatens, somethings got to give.
So, tighten up the chin straps and belly up to the fan bar, this one’s gonna be a hum-dinger.
Unless of course Darby throws a monkey wrench into the gear box and screws everything up?
NAH!!!
Hey, it ain’t Cats-Griz but it’ll do until that gets here.
So what is all the “fuss” about? It’s not an extremely rare situation, but it is a pair of unbeaten football teams heading for a “Super-Nova” like collision to small town football fans.
It’s gonna be talked about, taken apart and examined and for awhile at least, become an epic struggle not to be missed.
Next Friday night, on the mean, green fields of St. Ignatius, the home-town Mission Bulldogs, who will come into the game unbeaten and untied at 7-0, will hook it up with the The Superior Bobcats, another unbeaten, untied team for the regular season Western B, 8-player football title.
Standing in the way of that dream match up is a game this Friday (Oct 14), a road game matching Superior with Darby. Now of course, Mission and Superior would still battle it out for first even if Darby were to upset Superior, but the aura of a clash of unbeaten teams
would be tarnished to say the least. Whatever-and-0 vs whatever-and-0 is magical no matter how you stack it.
Mission already beat the snot out of Darby 64-14 earlier this year and there’s no reason to think Superior won’t do the same.
So bring on the game!
Mission versus Superior is THE game all e-ballers want. The two teams feature stingy defenses and high-octane offenses. Tighten down your wig granny, it could get wild.
Oh, it’s quite likely these two teams will bust it up somewhere down the playoff highway, but they won’t be unbeaten...at least one of them won’t.
If this is your first 8-man football game you are thinking about attending, drill some handles for you seat cushion.
Is it October 21 yet?
