Diversity Symposium Thursday at NIC

The North Idaho College Diversity Council will present its sixth annual Diversity Symposium at the college this week.
Matika Wilbur, a member of the Swinomish and Tulalip tribes, will deliver the keynote address, "Changing the Way We See Native America: Dismantling Native American Stereotypes," at 1 p.m. Thursday in Todd Lecture Hall at the Molstead Library. Wilbur is the founder and photographer of Project 562, a documentary project dedicated to changing perceptions of American Indians.
A question-and-answer session for students will be held at noon Friday in the Edminster Student Union Building.
In addition to her participation in the symposium, Wilbur will participate in arts and culture events in Coeur d’Alene. The Human Rights Education Institute will feature her visual storytelling exhibit, "Project 562: Native America Now,” through December in the HREI gallery. Wilbur will host an exhibit opening during ArtWalk in downtown Coeur d’Alene from 5-8 p.m. Friday. HREI is at 414 W. Fort Grounds Drive, Coeur d’Alene.
