John Andrew Dunkle, 87

Our dad, John Andrew Dunkle, also known as Johnny or Big Red of Post Falls, Idaho, formerly from Priest River, Idaho, passed away Oct 2, 2022. He was born April 27, 1935, in Sundace, Wyo. When he was younger, his family moved to Priest River, Idaho, and he went to Priest River schools, which he graduated in 1953 from PRHS. He enlisted in 1955 to go into the Navy, where he was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked in several sawmills after getting out of the service, including Louisiana Pacific sawmill in Priest River for 23 years; he also enjoyed going out in the woods and cutting firewood to help supplement his income.

He enjoyed camping in the woods with family and friends, fishing, hunting, playing pinochle and visiting with family and friends.

Johnny is preceded in death by son Marty Dunkle, his wife, Margie James Dunkle, his sister, Sybil Dunkle King and his parents, Lloyd Dunkle and Wanda Reynolds Herrick. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends as well.

He is survived by a son, Lloyd (Dunkle) Patten, two daughters, Karen Dunkle Sandretzky, Kimberlee Dunkle Slack, his two sisters, Carol Dunkle Hurley and Barbara Herrick Sheffler, four grandchildren, Jessy Steele, Adam Reilly, Kailee Steele Burnett, Wayne Reilly and numerous great-grandchildren, family and friends.

The family would like to thank Life Care of Coeur d’Alene for taking good care of him these past seven years.

We are celebrating his life Oct. 15, 2022, at the English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho, 1700 N. Spokane St., with a potluck following the service, come and celebrate with us and share your favorite memory with him.
