MOSCOW — In their first match in 13 days, the Lakeland Hawks lost to the Moscow Bears 27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23 in the Inland Empire League finale for both teams Tuesday night at Bear Den.

It was the regular season finale for Lakeland (17-8, 5-3 IEL), which still earned the top seed for the 4A Region 1 tournament next week. Moscow (7-8, 4-4) will play host to No. 3 Sandpoint on Tuesday, with the winner playing at Lakeland next Thursday in the championship match for the region’s lone berth to state.

Last year, Moscow upset Lakeland in Rathdrum for the state bid.

Landree Simon had 17 kills, Ziya Munyer eight blocks for Lakeland. Ella Terzulli had 34 assists, Ellie Carlson 32 digs, Emily Morlan five aces.

“Moscow played really well and defensively dug up some tough hits,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Landree had a great hitting night and played really well. Emily served aggressively and went on a really long serving run in the second set with five aces. Ellie played scrappy and picked up a lot of hard hits. Addie Raebel played really well on the outside and pushed through not feeling well.”

Priest River

ST. MARIES — Senior Taci Watkins had eight kills and two aces on senior night as the host Lumberjacks clinched the outright Central Idaho League championship with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 victory over the Spartans.

Lily Daniel had 23 assists, Berkli McGreal eight digs for St. Maries (15-6, 7-0 CIL). Ava Sancil had five kills and two aces, Mia Asbury four kills and three aces.

“It was great to get a win tonight, as senior night is always a hard one,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “We were able to get back to business once the senior recognitions were done, which was good to see. Our focus for this game and through the remainder of the season is to make something happen. You can’t sit around and wait for something to happen to you, you have to go and out make decisions that get the results you want.”

Priest River is 3-9, 0-7.

St. Maries wraps up the regular season Friday at home vs. Grangeville.

Sandpoint d.

Kellogg

SANDPOINT — Maddie Cheney had 11 kills, 12 digs and two aces for the visiting Wildcats in the 25-17, 27-25, 25-21 nonleague loss to the Bulldogs at Les Rogers Court.

Abby Neff had 18 assists, three blocks and two aces for Kellogg (9-6). Macy Jerome had 12 digs, Avery Little two aces for the Wildcats.

“We played really well,” Kellogg coach Stephanie Batchelder said. “We needed to fix our serve-receive (after the first game), and the second and third game we fixed our serve-receive, which was helpful.”

Sandpoint is 3-11.

Kellogg plays host to Moscow on Thursday.

Lakeside

CLARK FORK — Tylah Lambert had six kills, 10 assists and four aces for the visiting Knights in a 25-22, 25-11, 23-25, 25-23 loss to the Wampus Cats in nonleague play.

MOSCOW — For the first half, it was the best soccer that second-year Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge had seen in his short time as coach.

Something to build on.

Lakeland (6-8-0) had its season come to an end with a loss to the Bears in a loser-out game in the 4A Region 1 tournament at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.

“I was really happy with how we played and were composed in that environment,” Rogge said. “We had a few slip through our hands and it was a tough loss. But the girls played pretty good and we’ve improved from the first game to today, so I’m really proud of the girls for that. We had some Grade A chances, and were knocking at the door quite a bit. I really like the road we’re on and looking forward to the future.”

Moscow (9-5-1) visits Sandpoint (7-5-2) on Thursday in the regional championship game.
