NIC ROUNDUP: Palacios' trick leads Cardinal men

COEUR d'ALENE — Nestor Palacios notched a hat trick for North Idaho College in a 4-2 win over the visiting Blue Mountain Timberwolves in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday.

NIC 4-6-3, 3-3-3 NWAC, 12 points) trails Walla Walla by one point for the third and final playoff spot with three matches remaining. Blue Mountain (6-4-1, 5-2-1, 16 points) is second in the East Region. Wenatchee Valley and Spokane are also tied with NIC with 12 points.

Josh Hieber also scored in the first half for NIC, which travels to Treasure Valley on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE — Teresa Ledezma recorded a hat trick, scoring twice on assists from Addison McCulloch for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Timberwolves at Eisenwinter Field.

Kaycee Chavez had three saves for NIC (8-2-3, 6-1-3 NWAC, 24 points), which leads Walla Walla by seven points for the third and final playoff spot. Blue Mountain is 5-10-0, 3-8-0.

Due to low numbers, NIC will receive a forfeit in Saturday's match at Treasure Valley and return to action next Wednesday at Yakima Valley.

WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Cardinals improved to 19-3, 10-0 in conference play with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-6 sweep of the Knights in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

No NIC stats were made available by the host school.

NIC travels to Pasco, Wash., on Friday to face Columbia Basin.
