The Post Falls Trojans and Coeur d’Alene Vikings split a pair of five-set thrillers during the Inland Empire League volleyball season.

Their first-round match in the 5A Region 1 tournament was no different.

Second-seeded Post Falls bounced back after dropping the third and fourth sets to edge third-seeded Coeur d’Alene 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 15-25, 15-13 on Saturday afternoon at The Arena in Post Falls.

“Our matchup with Coeur d’Alene is always a challenge,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said.”Both teams played well. I was proud of how we moved the ball in the offense. Our middles, Sam Anderson and Maleah Wilhelm, really played well.”

Post Falls (23-6) will play at top-seeded Lake City (18-3) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for the regional title and a trip to state. Lake City defeated No. 4 Lewiston 25-14, 25-12, 21-25, 25-17 on Saturday afternoon at Lake City. Coeur d’Alene (16-9) will play host to Lewiston (4-11) on Tuesday at 6:30 in a loser-out match.

“Hats off to Lewiston,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “They played with a ton of grit. The scores in the first two sets don’t really reflect it, but they fought hard and didn’t give us an inch. Our serving (15 aces) gave us the edge today. We’re looking forward to another tough battle on Tuesday.”

• LATE FRIDAY

St. Maries d.

Grangeville

ST. MARIES — Taci Watkins had 14 kills, and the host Lumberjacks completed an undefeated Central Idaho League season with a 25-16, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday.

“We struggled a few times with our serving that caused us to have to dig ourselves out of holes,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “This has become something we are good at apparently — we regroup, figure it out, and change the momentum back to our side and make things happen.

“We are not perfect and we acknowledge that, and use every opportunity and experience to make the next play or game better. I am so proud of my team and their accomplishments thus far and looking forward to our postseason play.”

Grangeville is 3-9, 2-5.

The 2A District 1-2 tournament is at Genesee and begins Monday. St. Maries plays at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the 4:30 match between Priest River and Grangeville.
