Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 3 months AGO
The Idaho Vandal football team has climbed into the rankings just six games into the Jason Eck era.
The Vandals went into Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula and toppled No. 3 Montana 30-23 on Saturday, and are now 4-2 on the season, including 4-0 against FCS opponents.
For their efforts, the Vandals jumped to 17th in the FCS STATS Perform Poll and 24th in the FCS Coaches Poll. It is the first time for the Vandals in the poll since the spring 2021 season when Idaho was ranked 24th in the March 29 poll.
The Vandals have won four straight games for the first time since the 2019 season and are 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2006. A win Saturday would put them at 4-0 in league play for the first time since 1994.
The Vandals play host to Portland State (2-4, 1-2) on Saturday at noon at the Kibbie Dome.
• Idaho wide receiver Hayden Hatten was named FCS Player of the Week. Hatten had nine catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns and he snagged a high-bouncing onside kick at midfield with 31 seconds to seal the win at Montana.

Patterson caught three touchdown passes and racked up 148 receiving yards in Saturday's 37-14 win over Northern Colorado. Patterson has caught eight touchdown passes overall this season, which tops the Big Sky and is tied for second-most in the FCS.
Idaho State's Charles Ike was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Bengals to a 40-31 win over Cal Poly on Saturday. Ike earned 10 tackles, with one being for loss, while picking off two passes and forcing a fumble. The Idaho State defense forced five turnovers overall against Cal Poly, with four being interceptions.
