The Whitefish volleyball team competed in the Blocktober Classic last weekend in Butte.

The competition featured three brackets at various locations in Butte with 25 teams competing to make it into the Championship Bracket on Saturday.

After Friday, Whitefish was in third place in the group of teams competing at the Maroon Activities Center, which earned them a spot in the championships. Stevensville and Laurel led Whitefish in the top two spots and the Bulldogs had a 5-3 record from Friday’s pool play.

On Saturday, Whitefish had a tough go facing Hardin in the morning — losing 25-16, 25-9 — and then Havre in the afternoon. Havre, the eventual third-place winner, beat the Bulldogs 25-14, 25-18.

The matches on Friday were one game played to 30 points. Whitefish defeated Libby, 30-10, East Helena, 30-13, Butte Central, 30-16, Lewistown 30-29 and Livingston, 30-19. The Bulldogs lost to Laurel, 30-21, Anaconda, 30-24 and Stevensville, 30-29.

Teams from across the state in both Class A and Class B competed in the large two-day tournament.
