PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lakeside stuns Genesis Prep in 1A Division 1 tourney

COEUR d’ALENE — Third-seeded Lakeside outlasted second-seeded Genesis Prep 15-13 in the fifth set to earn the victory in a semifinal match in the 1A Division I District 1 tournament on Tuesday at Christianson Gymnasium on the campus of North Idaho College.

Martina Rivera had seven kills, 14 assists and two aces for Lakeside (5-8), which will face top-seeded Wallace (9-6) in Thursday’s championship match at 7 p.m. at NIC. That winner advances to state Oct. 28-29 at Madison High in Rexburg.

Arianna Havier-Gorr added six kills and 18 digs for Lakeside, Tylah Lambert 14 assists, eight aces and three kills, Kimberly Pluff seven kills and three aces.

Genesis Prep, which tied Wallace for the Scenic Idaho Conference title, finishes 10-5.

MOSCOW — The second-seeded Bears advanced to the 4A Region 1 championship match with a 25-15, 24-26, 25-11, 25-11 win over the third-seeded Bulldogs at Bear Den.

Moscow (9-8) advances to face top-seeded Lakeland (17-8) on Thursday at 6 p.m. for the region’s lone berth to state Oct. 28-29 at Thunder Ridge High in Idaho Falls.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Callie Smith had nine digs for the third-seeded Warriors in a 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 loss to the second-seeded Tigers in the semifinals of the 1A Division II District 1 tournament at Christianson Gymnasium.

“The girls made some great plays tonight,” first-year Kootenai coach Lacey Bohannon said. “They never gave up. They continued to fight the whole time. This is a very young team and the strides they have made this season has been phenomenal to watch. I am excited to see what next year brings.”

Junior Keira Bohannon had eight digs, sophomore Kaylee Lupo two aces and freshman Chloe Dorman one block for Kootenai, which finishes 0-15.

Mullan (5-8) faces top-seeded Clark Fork (11-4) in the district championship on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Christianson Gymnasium. The winner advances to the state 1A Division II tournament Oct. 28-29 at Madison High in Rexburg.

BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers defeated the Tigers 25-12, 25-8, 25-12 in the first game of a best-of-3 game 3A District 1 tournament series.

Bonners Ferry (12-9) can advance to the state tournament Oct. 28-29 at Hillcrest High in Ammon. Timberlake (2-19) can force a third and deciding match on Thursday in Bonners Ferry with a win tonight.
