BLAST, BLAZE DESTROY OFFICE
Investigation continues into Sunday’s explosion and fire which destroyed the Sandpoint office of Petrolane Kootenai Gas Service, Inc. Fire Chief Wade Brown said the building at Division and the Dover Highway, was razed and burning when fire trucks arrived. A gas furnace may have triggered the explosion. Firemen could do little but extinguish the building’s flaming remains, which at the time was unoccupied. The fire did not threaten the firm’s gas storage tanks, located some distance away.

Oct. 20, 1922 – LOCAL MENTION
Street Commissioner Ryan is correcting the depression in the pavement and sidewalk on First avenue near the Cedar street bridge. The place of this depression is “filled” ground (former city dump), having been built up before the pavement and walk were laid, and has since settled some two feet. In making the repair the concrete walk has been taken up, to be replaced when the new “fill” is made.

CLUB MAY PUT ON DRIVE FOR MEMBERS
The Civic club held a very interesting meeting yesterday, the main topic of discussion being the amount that is right to charge for dues. The present dues are two dollars a year and some members felt that sum too much and that it was because of the raise in the dues that the number of club members had dropped from over 100 to 60 in less than a year. Some members felt that one dollar was a nominal sum and after discussion an amendment was made to the effect that the dues be changed to one dollar a year. This will be voted on at the next meeting.
