MOSCOW — The Bulldogs' volleyball season came to a disappointing end as Sandpoint lost to the Moscow Bears in the opening round of district play, 15-25, 26-24, 11-25 and 11-24.
"Overall, [it was] a very sad and disappointing way to end our season, Sandpoint coach Karen Alsager said. "We had four coaches working hard to help the girls succeed, but Moscow was just too seasoned for the night."
Further hampering the Bulldogs' effort was an inability to get the team's attack going, which previously had been solid for Sandpoint this year, Alsager said.
She said the highlight of the game was being able to watch Aubree Lane and Amaya Russell's passion and giving their all.
Lane led the Bulldogs in kills with 11 while contributing 13 digs, and Russell had four aces and 18 digs on the night. Viv Platte had eight kills for the Bulldogs and Hailey Swaim had 26 assists.
Only a few teams in the state get to end their seasons on a win, with losing a part of how athletics goes, Alsager said. However, she added that the team's record fails to capture just how special and amazing her varsity team is.
"But this team was very special this year, the record didn’t show that," Alsager said.
The Sandpoint coach said everyone in the program loves and respects the members of the varsity team, who worked hard each match and never gave up.
"[The] journey and relationships are what they will remember," she added. "I am sad I won’t get to see them play again this year."
