Oct. 23, 1972 – NEWS FROM SELLE

Northside School’s Harvest Dinner is Saturday, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Besides a turkey dinner, there will be a country store and carnival. For Thursday’s work night, everyone is asked to bring popcorn balls, cookies and candy to wrap, and items for the store.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron Smith are parents of a daughter, Lori Anne, born Oct. 1 weighing 8 lbs. 12½ oz. She joins sister Dana Marie. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Phil McNearney and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Smith.

DINNER PARTY FETES LUCILLE SIMONSON

Members of the Eagles Auxiliary drill team gathered in the Kaniksu for a dinner honoring Lucille Simonson who retired recently after 25 years as drill team captain. Attending were Mrs. DeArley Barber, Mrs. Simonson’s sister visiting from San Diego, and drill team members Grace Koski, Elinor Hoffman, Gladys Howell, President Mary Ellen Evans, Ruth Tollbom, Myrtle Churchill and Louise Crandell.

Helping Donna Spade celebrate her 8th birthday were Eve Gordon, LeAnna Porath, Laurie Bristow, Terri Farmin, Jackie Pucci and Carie Werrig.

Victor Jacobson celebrated his seventh birthday.

Mrs. Emma Overland was nicely surprised Sunday when her son, Bill, and wife, Cathy, stopped to visit.

The Sagle Helping Hand Club met at the home of Mary Boothe Friday. The next meeting will be at the home of Helen Gunter. The club will have a bake sale at the Co-Op Gas and Supply on Oct. 28.

Oct. 23, 1922 – CITY BREVITIES

After being out of business several years, the firm of Kerr & Nead, composed of C.A. Kerr and Ray Nead, will again enter the field of commerce. They will open a general store at Troy, Mont., to be in charge of Mr. Nead. Mr. Kerr, who is associated in the Martin grocery of this city, will remain here.

T.L. Greer left yesterday for Moscow for a meeting of Idaho fire protection organizations. He will also attend the Idaho-W.S.C. football game tomorrow.

Work on the Bottle Bay road was suspended for the season Saturday.

NO NEW FIRE TRUCK

The city council Monday decided not to purchase the Reo “speed wagon” fire truck exhibited here, Mayor Wheelan stating the city had no provision to purchase a new truck and Alderman Ellison stating that $1000 worth of repairs would put the city’s engine into shape and do as much good as purchasing a new fire truck.

COMMUNITY HALL FOR CHURCH

The Methodist church yesterday let the contract for building a community hall. The one story 72x32 ft. frame structure, costing about $1250, will be on the lots in the rear of the church, facing Main. Plans are for a 52x32 ft. main hall with a 16 ft. high ceiling, which can be used as a gymnasium. Other rooms will be for kitchen, dressing room and shower baths.
