PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City volleyball wins state play-in match

• VOLLEYBALL

GRANGEVILLE — The Lake City Timberwolves successfully navigated the play-in route to the state 5A volleyball tournament for the second straight year, beating the Centennial Patriots 25-21, 25-10, 25-14 on Saturday in a state play-in match at Grangeville High.

“We got to play them at the Rocky Mountain tournament (winning 2-0), so we had a pretty good idea what to expect,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “We knew their block is consistent, and we had to cover, and just hit smart shots around the block. I think we did a good job keeping them out of system; our goal was to make them have to move.”

Ella Hosfeld had nine kills, four aces and 16 assists for Lake City (20-4). Aubrey Stennett had 13 assists, five kills and three aces, Allie Bowman 18 digs and two aces, Payton Peugh nine kills and five aces, Emberlyn Reynolds four kills and two blocks.

Lake City, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 7 Owyhee of Meridian on Friday at 8 a.m. PDT in the first round of the state tournament at Skyline High in Idaho Falls.
