Brass quintet performs in Moses Lake Thursday

MOSES LAKE — Selections from the classical brass repertoire come to Moses Lake Oct 27 when the group Seraph Brass performs in concert. The five-woman ensemble will take the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wallenstien Theater on the Big Bend Community College campus.
The concert is sponsored by the Central Basin Community Concert Association. It’s the second of the association’s four concerts for the season.
The CBCAA returned to the Wallenstien Theater after a year away while the space was being renovated.
The quintet of Mary Elizabeth Bowden (trumpet), Rachel Velvikis (horn), Raquel Samayoa (trumpet), Victoria Garcia (trombone) and Cristina Cutts Daugherty (tuba) play original works as well as classical selections. For the 2022 concert tour the group is playing selections from both opera and symphonic works from Verdi, Schumann and Liszt among others, some from the classical repertoire, others transcribed for brass instruments.
Their concerts also feature original music from contemporary composers, including Kevin Day and Catherine McMichael, among others. Their repertoire also includes their interpretations of popular music.
The five women are music instructors as well as performers, and they will present a class for students in Moses Lake.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $65 for a family, $35 for a single-parent family and can be purchased at the door.
The CBCCA has been sponsoring live performances in the Basin since its founding in 1954. It started as a subscription series, and people can still buy season tickets. Tickets also are sold for individual concerts.
Hi Tide will perform April 3. The duo of Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings combine acoustic guitar, drums and vocals with the beat of their native Cayman Islands. Their repertoire includes pop classics, featuring artists from Bob Marley to America, along with original music. They have released 13 albums.
The Sapphire Trio presents the season finale concert May 5. The three-woman trio features music instructors and performers who wanted to play classical and contemporary music for violin, clarinet and piano.
Concert association season tickets do come with a perk, reciprocal agreements for concerts sponsored by other community groups that use the same booking company, Live on Stage. Season ticket holders can attend concerts free of charge in Wenatchee, Richland, Shelton, Longview, Bremerton, Centralia and Everett.

MOSES LAKE — Samaritan Healthcare posted net revenue losses in January and February, and while hospital officials anticipated some red ink, the losses were larger than the budget projections. Samaritan posted an operating loss of about $1.4 million in February and about $486,500 in January.
Study recommends city keep MLFD
MOSES LAKE — As of now, the city of Moses Lake would be best served by keeping its own fire department, planning to accommodate additional demand and financial sustainability. That was the recommendation of a study presented to the Moses Lake City Council at its regular meeting Tuesday.
