Peaking at this time of year can be a very good sign with District playoffs beginning this weekend.
That bodes well for the Superior Lady Bobcats, who picked up a pair of wins this past week, including a 3-2 thriller of a victory over I-90 rival St. Regis this past Tuesday.
With the District 14C volleyball tournament set to open this Thursday in Ronan’s spacious Events Center, the wins give the Lady Bobcats solid momentum heading into playoff competition.
Superior followed their Tuesday five set win over St. Regis with a much easier 3-0 conquest of the Philipsburg Lady Prospectors this past Thursday in Philipsburg.
Five Lady Bobcats had solid nights in the match vs St. Regis. The home standing Lady Tigers won the opening set 25-23 as both teams battled to the last point.
Superior shook off the first set loss and bounced back to take the second game, 25-18 and square the match at one game each.
The Lady Bobcats then won set number three 25-19 to take a 2-1 set lead and seemed on their way to victory when St. Regis reached deep and kicked it into a higher gear.
The Lady Tigers tied the match at 2-2 with a 25-19 set four win that set the stage for a wild set five.
However, Superior came out smoking in the fifth and deciding game, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back as they wrapped up the match with a 15-3 game five win that gave them the 3-2 match victory.
Several Lady Bobcats had solid performances in the triumph, including a five kills, 28 digs showing from junior Lanie Crabb. She was joined in double figure stats by Trinity Donaldson (25 digs); Brooke Bibler (six service aces and 12 assists) and Maddie Drey (eight aces and three blocks).
Two days later, Superior hit the road for a match with Philipsburg. The Lady Bobcats had an easier time with the Prospectors, winning three straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20.
Bibler once again had an outstanding match, recording three aces and 26 assists. Crabb had 10 kills to go with her 29 digs; and Payton Milender chipped in nine kills and 32 digs in the victory.
The wins boosted Superior to 8-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference with the Ronan District tournament getting underway this Thursday.
