Beginning this week with the Western 7B volleyball tournament hosted by Thompson Falls and the Western 14C tourney at the Ronan Events Center, volleyball fans will have a chance, in some cases one last chance, to see their teams in action this year.

The same is also true in a somewhat different manner for area 8-player and 6-player football teams, with both six-player teams from Sanders County qualifying for post-season play. And highly ranked Superior, a Western 8-player team, will also see playoff action this coming weekend.

Hot Springs and Noxon finished one-two in the Western 6-player football conference and have round 1 games this weekend.

Noxon, which closed out its season this past weekend with a 54-14 road rout of Twin Bridges, gets things underway this Friday evening with a 6 p.m. game in Valier.

Hot Springs, which won the Western 6-player regular season title, plays its first game this Saturday in Hot Springs at 1 p.m. against a triple co-op team from Joplin, Chester and Irviness.

The only Sanders or Mineral County football team to qualify for post-season action this year is Superior, which lost it’s final regular season game of the year to St. Ignatius this past Friday. The Bobcats host Forsyth in a 1 p.m. game this Saturday in 8-player competition.

Volleyball, meanwhile, kicks of its playoff seasons with the Western 7B tourney in Thompson Falls this Friday, with Plains and Thompson Falls both involved in that tourney.

Plains is scheduled to take on Eureka this Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the Blue Hawks gym, while Thompson Falls’ girls have a first day bye and will play the winner of the Plains-Eureka match Friday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. also at Thompson Falls High School.

The Western 14C volleyball tournament moves to the Event Center in Ronan for its District tournament, which get underway with games all day this Friday and Saturday.

Charlo earned the number one seed from the 14C via it’s regular season title, although the Lady Vikings did suffer a rare loss last week at the hands of Noxon’s Lady Red Devils.

The 14C features all seven of its conference teams in the opening rounds of the District tournament.
