ST. IGNATIUS – The Mission Bulldogs are headed to the 8-man playoffs for the second straight season following a 58-0 blow out victory over visiting Superior Bobcats on Friday night.
Mission scored 36 unanswered points in the first half, running away with its Western C 8-Man undefeated showdown with Superior.
In the second half, Mission’s offense scored 22 points, while a Bobcat offensive squad that had averaged a little more than 370 yards total offense and 60.25 points per game this season was held to only 148 total offensive yards by a mercy rule running clock and a smothering Bulldogs’ defense.
“Our kids played great,” said Bulldogs’ second year head coach Carson Oakland. “They had a great week of practice, and it showed on Friday night. Our scout team has been doing a great job of getting our starters a look and a lot of credit goes to them.”
On the night, Bulldog senior running back Canyon Sargent rushed 17 times for 132 yards and four touchdowns. Sargent also led the defense with 15 tackles.
Mission QB Kellen McClure threw touchdown passes to Kenny Ness, Isaac Umphrey, and Bryce Umphrey in addition to rushing for 89 yards on 14 carries and a TD.
Bryce Umphrey led all Bulldog receivers with 92 yards on five catches.
On Saturday, Mission will host the 5-3 Circle Wildcats at 1 p.m. in the first round of the 8-Man State playoffs.
