The Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra is returning for another entertaining Labor Day performance in Coeur d'Alene City Park.

The Symphony in the Park concert is free to the public and will begin at noon in the Rotary Lakeside Bandshell.

Everyone is welcome. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy an outdoor musical event.

The symphony musicians, conducted by maestro Danh Pham, will perform a diverse selection of works. Highlights include "Broadway Curtain Time" by John Krance, "Pirates of Penzance" by Sir Arthur Sullivan, "West Side Story" and the popular "Armed Forces Medley."

Volunteers will pass the hat to help raise funds for the orchestra and for the Coeur d’Alene Police Foundation.

"Because it is Labor Day, we thought it would be fitting to use hats representative of working Americans," event organizer Cora Powers said. "We have hats from construction workers, farmers, ski patrols, police and others. We greatly appreciate our community’s support."

A portion of the donations will be used by the Coeur d'Alene Police Foundation to provide toys for children who are hospitalized during the upcoming holiday.

"We also hope to have symphony musicians visit the hospitals and provide holiday music to children who can’t be home for the holidays," Powers said.
