PREP FOOTBALL: Lakeland rolls to first 3-0 start since 2014
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 4 years, 1 month AGO
RATHDRUM — Weston Saputski scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for Lakeland, which rolled to a 35-10 win over the visiting Columbia Wildcats of Nampa at Corbit Field on Thursday.
It is Lakeland’s first 3-0 since the 2014 season.
“We had quite a few penalties in the first half and really didn’t get into a rhythm,” Lakeland coach Mike Schroeder said. “We had a few drives that failed, and we’ll need to clean that part up. But we started to control the line of scrimmage in the second half and controlled the clock in the fourth quarter. It was a little ugly, but a nice win for us.”
Caysen Loutzenhiser scored in the second quarter to give Lakeland a 14-3 lead at halftime.
John Cornish ran for a pair of third-quarter touchdowns for Lakeland.
“Columbia’s improved and did some good things,” Schroeder said. “But we were able to capitalize with our running backs Thomas Calder and John Cornish. We just kept it simple offensively, and defensively, we played pretty well. We did just enough to keep them at bay.”
Lakeland travels to West Valley next Thursday.
Columbia is 1-1.
