PREP ROUNDUP: Cervi-Skinner paces Viking boys at Post Falls River Run

CROSS COUNTRY

POST FALLS — Coeur d’Alene High sophomore Max Cervi-Skinner was the top overall boys finisher in 10 minutes, 39.9 seconds in the Post Falls Invitational on Thursday at Kiwanis Park.

The races, each 2 miles in length, were separated by grade for the season-opening event.

Coeur d’Alene Charter senior McKenna Kozeluh was the top girls finisher in 12:01.5.

SANDPOINT — Junior Bailey Jaworski had 19 assists, 13 digs and three aces as the visiting Vikings beat the Bulldogs 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25 in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

“She played well tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “They were really trying to pick on our setter in the right back. She had to dig in and play some defense. She ran the court well.”

Madi Symons had 18 kills and five digs for Coeur d’Alene (8-0). Paisley Goings added eight kills, three aces and a block, Gia Janke had eight kills, Angela Maiani 12 assists, Alexa Stavros five digs.

“There were some good rallies; we had to battle,” Curtis said.

Amaya Russel had 20 digs, Vivian Platte 11 kills and three blocks, Haley Swaim 31 assists for Sandpoint (0-3).

Coeur d’Alene returns to action Tuesday at home vs. Post Falls.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint’s Roman Jiles and Coeur d’Alene’s Dylan Jones had three saves each in a scoreless draw in Inland Empire League play.

“Sandpoint’s defense plays really well as a unit,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “They attack as a group and play in sync, which is a style you don’t normally see up north. Our first half was sloppy and slow. We had some shots in the second half, but just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.”

Coeur d’Alene (4-0-1, 4-0-1 IEL) travels to Moscow next Thursday.

Sandpoint (4-0-2, 1-0-1) visits Lakeland on Wednesday.

OROFINO — Nate Anderson had eight saves for the Tigers in an Intermountain League win over the Maniacs at Orofino Elementary School.

Gavin Mooney had a goal and assist for Timberlake (4-1-0, 4-0-0 IML), which is scheduled to face Immaculate Conception on Tuesday at Bodine Field in Post Falls.

Orofino is 1-1-1, 1-1-1.

SANDPOINT — Lauren Bengtson scored the tying goal on an assist from Alli Carrico in the 50th minute for the Vikings, who played to an Inland Empire League draw with the Bulldogs at Memorial Field.

“The first half was a little slow for us,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg, whose team fell behind 1-0 on Kelsey Cessna’s goal in the 10th minute. “The goal kind of caught us off guard, but the girls battled through it and moved the ball really well in the second half. We had some shots, but just couldn’t get the ball in.”

Coeur d’Alene (2-2-1, 2-2-1 IEL) is scheduled to visit Mead today at 4 p.m.

Sandpoint (3-1-2, 1-1-1) hosts Lakeland next Thursday.
