KOVACS: Dangerous precedent by commissioners

The Cancel Culture has now come to Coeur d’Alene. For the past few weeks we have seen article after article published in The Press condemning, slandering and denouncing a publicly elected official to the assessor’s office, Bela Kovacs. What I feel should have been a private personnel matter has been posted front page with the seemingly wholesale intention of destroying Mr. Kovacs’ character and reputation.

It is highly suspicious by this reader that Bob Scott, who ran against Mr. Kovacs in the primary election and is still an employee of the assessors office, has the blessing of the County Commissioners to replace Mr. Kovacs as a write-in candidate for the November elections. Hmm? Even though Mr. Scott was defeated in his attempt to take over the assessor’s office it seems as though he has not stopped campaigning for the job.

I feel the County Commissioners should be taken to task for the nasty attempt to make Mr. Kovacs resign by slashing his pay in half! It does not even sound legal. At the same time they voted themselves a nice salary increase. Isn’t that special?

There may be much more to this story than all the one-sided editorials and articles being published. The nefarious actions of the County Commissioners and the smear campaign being conducted sounds like a page taken from the Jan. 6 kangaroo court.

I guess the shenanigans in Washington, D.C., are spreading far and wide.
