I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | September 8, 2022 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Badgers beat Clark Fork in all three sets, 3-0, 25-17, 25-13, 27-25, at home on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

After the Badgers won the first two sets, the Wampus Cats took the lead to start the third set and it was neck-in-neck until the end. With the Badgers up 26-25, a lengthy rally took place with both teams fighting to keep it going. Outside hitter Helene Rae spiked the ball again and again against Clark Fork, the Wampus Cats defense returned the ball until they had one bad touch, giving the Badgers the win.

"Five games into the season, I’m pleased with the program as a whole,” said Badger head coach Cynthia Cummings.

Cummings said he is still making changes on offense and is trying to see what is best for the team. She has been moving players into different positions and seeing which hitters are more consistent and whose comfortable in what positions. Since there are 12 girls on varsity there is room to move players around.

Cummings said at practice the team is working on not staying in one position, but moving around.

“Because at any moment you need to be able to set, pass and serve,” she said. “You should be able to play every position, which is something they are working on in practice.”

She added that players need to be flexible, adaptable and play all the way out.

Badger volleyball still has their sights on making it to state and having a winning season. The team is also focusing on academics and high grade point averages.

The C and JV teams have tournaments this weekend. Varsity has a break from competing until Thursday, Sept. 15, at home against Thompson Falls.

Badgers are 4-1.

Overall the team had a 90.4% serving percentage and 20 aces.
