It comes in a well, a pen, a tattoo, a stamp, a newspaper and sometimes from a startled cephalopod.

Any way you write, draw, print or squirt it, Emerge is inviting the community to celebrate the wonders of ink during the sixth annual INK! Print Rally from 1-7 p.m. Saturday.

"This year's INK! Print Rally is particularly exciting because we have 16 amazing artists and Kevin Haas, the Washington State University printmaking instructor, leading the printing," Emerge Executive Director Jeni Hegsted said Wednesday.

The rally will be at and around Emerge, the collective art experience housed at 119 N. Second St., Coeur d'Alene, and will feature interactive printmaking booths with activities for all ages, local artisans and makers, live music, food trucks and a beer garden for those 21 and older.

"We will take over the street between Sherman and Lakeside, while also using the parking lots of Architects West and the Johnson, giving us ample room for our outdoor print gallery, beer garden and stage," Hegsted said. "We'll have a fantastic DJ/MC Bentano, blasting all the best vibey music to keep everyone's energy up. The weather looks perfect! It'll be the best event to close out summer."

Large-scale prints will be created all day using 5-by-4-foot carved wood panels and an asphalt roller.

This year's event will explore the theme of "underground," defined as "a subterranean space or channel, an underground city railway system, a movement or group organized in strict secrecy among citizens and more."

The INK! Print Rally is free and open to the public.
