I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | September 8, 2022 1:00 AM
BONNERS FERRY —- The Wampus Cats lost their first volleyball game of the season against the Bonners Ferry Badgers, but lessons were learned.
Clark Fork lost the game in three sets, but fought until the end.
Head coach Michelle Valliere told the Daily Bee she was proud of the team’s performance due to it being their first game. She said they need to work on offense and blocking.
For the Wampus Cats, Paige Valliere had 14 assists, Emily Myers had aces. Eliose Sheldon had five kills and 15 digs, and Amari Printz-Hay had six blocks.
The program is still out one player due to needing more practice. Valliere said once all players are eligible it will add depth to the team.
She said she was proud that the girls put on a big fight and didn't back down. They had good defense, but now they need to work on offense and serve-receive skills. More practice and game experience will prepare the team, she said
With 18 players in the program the Wampus Cats’ coaching staff is working to develop the young players to compete at the varsity level.
In game three, Amair Printz-Hay blocked several attempts by the Badgers and was instrumental in helping the Wampus Cats creep back up to the Badgers. The Wampus Cats fought to pass the Badgers but after one long rally they fell short and finished the third set behind 27-25.
The Wampus Cats play Timberlake at Clark Fork on Thursday. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
