Wampus Cats claim first VB win of season
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 4 years AGO
After a tough loss to start the season, Clark Fork used a strong defensive game to win its first volleyball game at home, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20.
"I'm pretty happy with the girls' play," coach Michelle Valliere said. "Their defense was amazing. Timberlake was hitting a lot of hard balls at us but we were able to [respond]."
Valliere said the Wampus Cats were able to respond to Timberlake's hard hitting and turn that into points in the first game. But serve-receive problems created by the Tigers hurt her team in the second game, Valliere said.
"We were able to figure it out in the end, and we were able to adjust," she said.
Valliere said the Wampus Cats were able to adjust their hits to target the middle of the court where the Tigers had a hard time digging it out.
"Emily [Myers] and Lilly [Reuter] did a good job on the outside for us," she added.
Paige Valliere did a "super good job" getting to every ball to set the Wampus Cats up to score.
Eloise Shelton and Reuter had nine digs to lead the Wampus Cats, Sarah Bopp had three blocks and Paige Valliere had 22 assists. Shelton and Myers had eight kills for Clark Fork. Myers and Reuter led the team in aces, each with five.
The Wampus Cats are 1-1. They are scheduled to play Wallace at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.
