Tony passed away Monday, Sept. 5, with his family at his bedside.
Tony grew up in New Mexico, the youngest of five children, prior to joining the military. He would travel the world for the next 30 years. He was an enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force and veteran of the Korean War until retiring his post at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, superintendent of missiles. In addition to the numerous awards, commendations and accolades for leadership and marksmanship, he was an integral part of the 341st Missile Wing.
He retired to Coeur d’Alene, where he has called home for the next 40 years. Retirement did not slow Tony down. He managed the Post Falls Circle K. His interest in astronomy blossomed to teaching himself, building an observatory by hand and then sharing that knowledge with community college students and 4-H club.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, L.A. Dodgers fan and user of duct tape. Any project could be fixed with duct tape.
He enjoyed a good joke (prop teeth after heart surgery), time with family (marbles anyone?), "America's Funniest Home Videos" and anything that would make him laugh. He had many good laughs with his family and everyone he met was a friend.
He was survived by sons: Bob, Tony, Marty and Michael; daughters: Donna, Barbara and Cindy; a plethora of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his son, Donald Harvey, and daughter Wanda Pate. He is reunited with his wife of 60 years, Daphine, fulfilling his last wish to be with his wife.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at Yates Funeral Home — Coeur d’Alene Chapel (744 N. Fourth St. Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814). A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Graveside service following at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life at Hayden’s Capone’s Pub and Grill (children welcomed).
In lieu of flowers, family is requesting memorial donation be made to Kootenai Humane Society (11650 N. Ramsey Road Hayden, ID 83835).
