Clarice June Carter, 88
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 4 months AGO
Clarice was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Whitetail, Mont., to Mary and Adolph Hansen. Clarice attended Coeur d’Alene High School and that’s where she met Lyndall E. Carter.
Clarice passed away Sept. 11, 2022, and is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Adolph Hansen; husband, Lyndall E. (Lyn) Carter; daughter, Lynda M. Long; her brothers, Kenneth and Lyle Hansen; and her brothers-in-law, Marvin, Russell, Ivan and Alan. She is survived by her daughters, Debra J. Dahlberg (Jim) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Cynthia A. Carter of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Along with her sisters, Almira Guderjohn, of Glendale, Ariz., and Betty Ramsey of Spokane, Wash.; and her brother, Ray Hansen, of Hayden Lake, Idaho.
During Clarice’s life she would compete with her sister-in-law, Lida Little (deceased) to see who could make the best dill pickles. She always said the secret was the water from the well at their home at Mica Flats. She would sell her pickles at The Candy Cane Christmas Fair held at St. Pius X Church every year they had the Fair and she would sell hundreds of pints.
Lyn and Clarice were lifelong parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic church; they were considered one of the founding families and dad had a hand in building the original church on Haycraft in Coeur d’Alene.
Clarice also loved to create Beautiful Crewel work, she gave most of her creations to her family members and dearest of friends. One year she even won the “Judges Choice” at the Kootenai County Fair.
Every year on Jan. 2, Clarice would celebrate her sobriety as a recovering alcoholic, and this past January was her 40-year anniversary. Her family was grateful to the man upstairs for that gift.
Mom moved from “The Farm” at Mica Flats in 2015 after the death of Lyn and a fall down the stairs at home. She moved into assisted living at Legends Park in Coeur d’Alene. She loved to play bingo there and won a lot. She made some new friends there like Betty, Anne, Rosemary and AnneMarie. Mom would get lots of flowers delivered and all her friends would tell her she was spoiled! And, she would get a big grin on her face and say: “Yes, I Am.”
With her family spread out all over the United States, she also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ginger Murphy (Lowell) Great Falls, Mont., A.J. Dahlberg, Moscow, Idaho, Allison Van Haute (Karl) Prince Frederick, Md., Brittany Homberg (Ryan) Commerce City, Colo., and Benjamin Long, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Great Grand’s; Cody Dahlberg (Susie) Lake Wales, Fla., Leann Murphy, Great Falls, Mont., Iona, Nicholas and Florence Van Haute, all from Prince Frederick, Md. And the latest addition to the family is great-great-granddaughter Daisy Mae Dahlberg, Lake Wales, Fla. Along with many nieces, nephews and all their families and extended families. She was always gram mama to someone.
Clarice LOVED babies and couldn’t wait to hold the next one that came to visit her. Mom may be gone but will never be out of our hearts.
