COEUR d’ALENE — A person of interest in the investigation of a Coeur d’Alene homicide was found dead Wednesday by area law enforcement personnel.

Drew Brake, the son of the homicide victim, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said a news release issued Thursday by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

Andrew Brake, 61, was found dead July 11 in his West Versailles Drive home.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives quickly identified Drew Brake as a person of interest, said the release.

Since then, detectives have been actively working the case and contacted Drew Brake several times, including earlier this week.

Detectives received a call Wednesday from one of Drew Brake’s family members who said gunshots were heard near the residence where Brake was living.

Personnel from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, including members of the combined SWAT team, responded to the scene.

Drew Brake was found deceased.

An investigation is ongoing.
