SPOKANE VALLEY — The offense produced five touchdowns, but it was the defense and special teams, in particular, which earned kudos from Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett after the Trojans blanked the University Titans 41-0 in nonleague play on Friday night.

Cooper Craig returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first quarter for Post Falls (3-1). The Trojans snuffed out a fake punt attempt by University (0-3) in the third quarter, and Logan Clark had an interception in the third quarter.

“It really started on the defensive side of the ball,” Bennett said. “Justin Farnsworth, our defensive coordinator, and the defensive coaches put a great defensive plan together, and the kids really executed.

“Our secondary played really well,” Bennett added. “They (the Titans) have a couple talented receivers, and a quarterback that moves the ball around, but once they got in the red zone we stepped up and made the stops.”

Sophomore Isaac McKeown threw three touchdown passes for Post Falls, two to junior Asher Bowie. Jake Bustamante ran for one score and caught a TD pass.

“I’ve been pleased with our offense because we're taking care of the football; we didn’t turn the ball over tonight,” Bennett said. “Isaac McKeown had a couple nice throws, Asher Bowie made a couple nice plays, and I thought we blocked the run game well. Jake and Tevin (Burns) ran the ball well.”

Post Falls travels to Lakeland next Friday for the Battle of the Prairie.

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Bears took a two-point lead in the third quarter, but the Tigers responded with five unanswered touchdowns en route to the nonleague victory at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.

Wyatt MacArthur, Hunter Higgins and Vaughn Higgins each rushed for two touchdowns for Timberlake (2-1). Vaughn Higgins rushed for 197 yards, Hunter Higgins 107 for the Tigers, who totaled 398 yards on the ground, and 506 yards of total offense.

After Timberlake went three-and-out to start the third quarter, Moscow (0-4) scored to take a 28-26 lead.

Timberlake answered with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cole Meidinger to Mitchell Zimmerman, then stopped Moscow on fourth down at the Tigers’ 2.

Vaughn Higgins then broke an 89-yard touchdown run, and Timberlake was off to the races.

“Our line decided to take over the game,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “And the defense stepped up. Then we got a couple turnovers.”

Jacob Yetter had two interceptions for Timberlake, including a pick-6 to cap the scoring. Luke Schell had a fumble recovery, Hunter Higgins an interception.

“In the first half we gave up 28 points and 300 yards passing,” Amos said. “Defensively, we struggled; the first half we didn’t play super well. But we were able to control the ball on the ground, and it was nice that we stepped up and decided to finish this football game.”

Timberlake travels to St. Maries next Friday.
