Dorothy Della Mooney, 86

Dorothy Della Mooney was born May 16, 1936, in Seattle, Wash., to Charles and Hazel (Connelly) Dunnick. She grew up in Washington and graduated from Everett High School. She continued her education and worked for the State of Washington Social Services in child support enforcement. Dorothy was married to A. Virgil Bateham. Their union was blessed with four children, Dan, Joe, Bill and Dale. Following this marriage she was married to Wm. “Bill” Weir. Her third husband was Dorothy’s true love, Wayne Mooney. The couple made their home in Dalton Gardens, Idaho. Wayne died in 2012 and Dorothy continued life at her Dalton Gardens home. A recent decline in health brought Dorothy to Life Care Center of Post Falls, Idaho where she died Sept. 15, 2022, at the age of 86 years.
Dorothy enjoyed knitting and giving her knitted gifts to the poor and homeless. She loved to read and was an avid reader her whole life. Wayne and Dorothy enjoyed pioneer, mountain man and Indian heritage and went to many “Rendezvous” camping in the mountains. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She was very caring and accepting and treated everyone like family. She had many unofficially “adopted” sons and daughters.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Dan Bateham of Port Angeles, Wash.; Bill (and June) Weir of Willis, Texas, Dale Bateham of Hadlock-Irondale, Wash.; step-daughter, Pamela (and Keith) Linden of Graham, Wash.; many “adopted” children, including Phil (and Bonnie) Ballew and Tina (and Brad) Hull; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Leininger of Alaska, Mary Steigleder of Texas; two brothers, Casey Dunnick of the Philippines, and John Dunnick of Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by husbands, A. Virgil Bateham, Wm. “Bill” Weir, and Wayne Mooney; a son Joe Bateham; daughter-in-law, Tina (nee Lewallen) Bateham; and a brother, Michael (and Shirley) Dunnick.
Blessed and eternal be the memory of Dorothy Della Mooney.
Visitation for Dorothy will be Thursday, Sept. 22, 10 a.m. — Noon at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene at 744 N. 4th Street. Graveside service and burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens at 12:30 p.m.
