NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals hand Columbia Basin first loss

COEUR d'ALENE — Freshman Jessica Stires had 13 kills, sophomore setter Abigail Neff 40 assists and 18 digs for North Idaho College in a 25-15, 16-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-13 win over Columbia Basin in Northwest Athletic Conference play at Christianson Gymnasium on Wednesday.

"It was a great match," NIC coach Kelsey Stanley said. "It was very much up and down, but we showed a lot of grit at the end and finished. Columbia Basin is a very good team and it's going to be another battle with them at their place."

Freshman Quincy Frohlich had 11 kills, freshman Brooke Minden 31 digs and sophomore Taylin Rowley 22 digs and five kills for NIC (11-3, 3-0 NWAC), which plays the Community Colleges of Spokane on Friday at Spokane Falls.

Columbia Basin is 13-1, 1-1.

COEUR d'ALENE — Sophomore forward Addison McCulloch recorded a hat trick, all in the first half, for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Yaks at Eisenwinter Field.

Teresa Ledezma had a goal and assist for NIC (5-2-0, 3-1-0 NWAC), which won its fourth straight match.

Yakima Valley is 4-3-0, 1-3-0.

Due to a shortage of healthy players, NIC's women's match against visiting Treasure Valley was canceled on Saturday, with the Chukars taking a forfeit.

Treasure Valley has not played since Aug. 27.

Due to the cancelation, the Cardinal-Treasure Valley men's match was moved up to noon on Saturday.
