Work continues on highway project

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | September 24, 2022 1:00 AM

SAGLE — While paving south of the Long Bridge is complete, paving on the other side is set to start, Idaho Transportation Department officials said.

Drivers on U.S. 95 will have noticed that paving on the highway from Pit Road in Sagle to the Bridge has been completed, Megan Jahns, ITD public information officer, said.

Crews finalized the process with inlaid pavement markings, a method of where highway striping is applied to ground-out sections of asphalt to create markings. The markings created are flush with the road surface for longevity and durability, Jahns said.

Next up on the Sagle highway project will be oak on the median U-turn. Jahns said construction of the retaining wall for the U-turn north of Bottle Bay Road has begun and will continue until work stops for winter.

"During this time, U.S. 95 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction with no center-turn lane between Bottle Bay Road and Denali Road," she said.

The U-turn will be completed in spring 2023.

Work on the intersection of Sagle Road and the highway will begin in late September to early October. Jahns said crews will begin work for the traffic signal and realignment of the intersection.

While the work is taking place, motorists can expect construction of signals pole foundations in the highway shoulder. However, that work is not expected to impact traffic, Jahns said.

In addition, starting in early October, Sagle Road between the highway and Lignite Road will be closed for up to a month as crews work to realign and widen the roadway.

Traffic from South Sagle and Talache roads will be detoured through Lignite Road, Jahns said.

Local traffic, including school buses, emergency vehicles, and residents living in the area, will be allowed through via Monarch Road, she added.

The signal will be installed and activated in spring 2023.

With paving south of the bridge completed, ITD crews will begin paving sections of U.S. 95 between the north side of the Long Bridge and the south end of the Sand Creek Byway in the coming month, Jahns said.

Paving is expected to take about a week, with the work taking place at night.

Motorists can expect to see a 12-foot lane of the highway with flaggers controlling traffic between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Delays are expected, Jahns said.
