The Bulldog golfers played in the Western A Divisional tournament at the Cabinet View Golf Course in Libby last Friday. The boys and girls had great success individually and the boys team finished in second place.
The girls team results saw Polson, Hamilton and Frenchtown taking the top three spots. Whitefish does not have a full girls team this year, so it was very challenging to qualify for state as an individual, but they succeeded.
“Both Lady Bulldog golfers qualified for state that attended the Divisional tournament, which was the season-long goal for both girls,” said Coach Tait Rocksund. “Leia Brennan made state on the number, shooting 108 to tie for 8th; Stella Jaffe shot 105 and received all-conference honors.”
On the boys side, Polson won the team competition, Whitefish finished in second place and Corvallis and Hamilton tied for third.
Billy Smith took second place by one stroke, losing to Polson’s Carson Hupka.
“Billy continues to be the most consistent golfer in Western A, consistently shooting around par,” said Rocksund. “Billy took all-conference as well as Matthew Peschel, and Johnny Nix for Whitefish.”
The state tourney is coming up and Rocksund says his players are looking forward to traveling to Hamilton, where they have had good showings in the past.
“It should be an exciting finish to the year!” Rocksund added.
The Class A State Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Hamilton Country Club.
