It didn’t take Noah Webster to see the obvious differences on the court last week when the Noxon Lady Red Devils visited the Two Eagle River team in Pablo for a Western C conference volleyball game.
The scoreboard showed it all too well. This year the Noxon Lady Red Devils are the better team, as they showed with a quick 3-0 sweep of the Eagles on their home court Tuesday.
Noxon jumped out to a 5-0 first set lead and never looked back in winning the set 25-12 behind superior play at the net and almost everywhere else.
The set one victory was part of an evening where the home team never led at any point during the match.
The Eagles tried hard to stay with the Lady Devils but simply did not have the players to match those from Noxon. They stayed close in the second set, trailing by a 9-5 count halfway through set number two, but Noxon flipped the switch and quickly pulled away, leading by as much as 23-9 before closing out the game for a 25-11 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
And in what was the final set of the match, the scenario for victory remained pretty much the same for the Lady Devils, who jumped to solid leads in all three sets, then fended off spirited but ill-fated Lady Eagles’ rallies as they built large leads into the later stages of each set.
Next up for Noxon is a home game vs Superior this Thursday night. Last week they participated in the Mineral Shoot Out tournament hosted by Superior, Alberton and St. Regis.
