COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College wrestling coach and former interim president Mike Sebaaly has resigned.

Chief communications officer Laura Rumpler confirmed Wednesday that Sebaaly resigned Sept. 23.

Sebaaly was placed on administrative leave Sept. 1 for an undetermined period of time. NIC declined to comment on the reason for his leave, citing a personnel matter.

Sebaaly did not respond Wednesday to requests for comment.

Hired in June 2019 to replace Pat Whitcomb, Sebaaly was only the fifth wrestling coach in the history of NIC’s program.

He came to North Idaho after five years at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kan., where he coached 11 All-Americans, four national finalists and three national champions.

Sebaaly was named interim president of North Idaho College in October 2021, after the board of trustees fired former President Rick MacLennan without cause.

He served in the role for about 10 months, during a period marked by the resignation of three trustees and a warning issued by NIC’s accrediting organization, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Following a nationwide search for a permanent president, Nick Swayne replaced Sebaaly effective Aug. 1.

Athletic director Shawn Noël is overseeing NIC’s wrestling program for the time being.

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium

For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
