Firewood authorizations again being offered
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 3 years, 4 months AGO
The Colville National Forest is again offering free, personal-use firewood authorizations for up to 12 cords of firewood per permit holder using a self-service procedure.
Partnering retailers will also continue to provide free firewood authorizations during business hours. The authorization allows the removal of up to 12 cords of firewood per household and is valid from April 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024.
Partnering locations include Selkirk Ace Hardware in Oldtown. The store can be reached at 208-437-5669.
Forest officials noted that 2022 forest user's maps are valid until 2023 maps become available in May.
The Colville National Forest district offices and the supervisor’s office are offering a self-service station to obtain the free 12-cord authorization and forest user’s map packet outside the visitor entrance door.
Those interested are reminded to fill out the authorization before cutting firewood and to follow the specified rules and terms.
Residents must record their firewood-cutting activity and carry both the authorization and forest use map with them while cutting firewood on the Colville National Forest.
For 2023, Tonasket Ranger District will continue using the collection requirements implemented when they were a part of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
Residents are reminded to research weather and road conditions before departing, to have a plan in the event of an emergency and to always let someone know where they are going and have the proper supplies.
