DEER PARK — On Friday, March 31, the Priest River track and field team finished at the top of the standings at the Glenn Wolf Invitational at Deer Park High School.

Despite missing about one-sixth of their team due to spring break and illness, the boys team finished fifth and the girls team finished 12th out of 26 total teams. In the meet’s three-year history, Priest River boys and girls have finished near the top every time thus far.

Matyus McLain, the Spartan standout, focused on throws this time around and put up an elite performance. McLain won both the shot put and discus with new personal records. His marks of 150 feet, 1 inch in the discus and 48 feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put moved him up to fourth and eighth in the Priest River record book, respectively. He scored 20 total points at the meet. Adding some more points for the throws was Jesse Poisel, who placed sixth with 112 feet, 7 inches.

Another key contributor for the boys team was Carter Korff, who finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. He marked 19 feet, 9.5 inches in the long jump and 37 feet, 8.5 inches in the triple jump; both were personal best jumps for Korff.

On the track, Bryaden Lamanna set a new personal record in the 3200m with a time of 10:42.92 that put him in sixth place. Ethan Korff finished sixth in the 110m hurdles with a new personal record of 20.72.

The girls side was led by Allyson Barton, who scored 11 total points. Barton finished second in the discus and sixth in shot put with throws of 103 feet, 4 inches and 30 feet, 10.75 inches, respectively. Rebecca Sedbrook finished right behind Barton in seventh with a throw of 30 feet, 7.5 inches.

Another field athlete who put on a good performance was pole vaulter Hadassah Davis, who finished fourth with a vault of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Next up for the Spartans will be an away meet versus Kellogg and St. Maries on Wednesday, April 12, at Kellogg High School.
