Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 3 years, 1 month AGO
Fred James Mooney (93), "Jim", was born Feb. 8, 1930, the fourth child born to Ned Mooney and Florence Anderson Mooney. He grew up on the Mooney family farm in Cougar Gulch and attended grade school at Meadowbrook School, later Sherman School, and high school in Coeur d’Alene. He entered the National Guard about 1951. He married Mary Frances Futter on June 16, 1956, and lived and farmed on Mica Flats until his death April 3, 2023.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Mooney, daughters Frances Robertson and Polly (Tony) Topolinsky, sons Oscar (Martha) Mooney and Dan (Kathy) Mooney, four grandchildren (Barry Runnels, Diane Robertson, Sarah Dougall and Clyde Mooney), one step-granddaughter, Crystal Silvers, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Hazel Reed, Edna Lorenzen and Louise Feely, as well as seven nieces and three nephews.
He is preceded in death by sister Virginia McDonald and brother Don Mooney, three nephews and two nieces.
Jim was a past member of the Mica Flats Grange #436 and the Eagles Aerie #486. Among Jim’s interests were elk hunting, woodworking — where he crafted scroll saw cutouts — and watching classic movies/westerns, and he loved ice-skating as a youth.
A memorial service will be held in Jim’s honor Tuesday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St. Coeur d’Alene, ID.
