Free Celtic jam at the JACC

Local musicians will gather in a European-style Celtic jam session tonight at 5:30 p.m. for a free community concert at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center. As many as 14 musicians, or more, could show up to perform traditional Irish songs on instruments ranging from a banjo, cello, fiddle, flute, guitar, zither and many others.

Players do very little talking and play songs in pairs, picked in turn around a circle by the musicians, so the performance is one of a kind, unpredictable and unique.

Refreshments will be available from the JACC, and seating is by availability in the relatively small room.

Musicians range from current members of a band, like Jan Clizer of Banna Damhsa, to former band members or people just seeking to practice and find time to play. There’s no obligation for artists to show up to play, so the performance is organic.

The free show is planned to last roughly two hours but could end before, and sometimes after 7:30 p.m.
