Newport jail reports inmate deal

NEWPORT — Pend Oreille County corrections and medical staff were unable to revive an inmate found unresponsive in his jail cell Wednesday.

The inmate, Jacob Mitchell, 29, of Newport, Wash., was the sole occupant of the jail cell when he was discovered, Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

An investigation into the cause and manner of death is underway.
