Troy's Sloan a double winner at Eureka Invitational

The Troy boys and girls track and field teams got their season off to a good start at the Eureka Invitational last Saturday.

Both squads had winners and each placed third behind the host Lions and runner-up Plains.

According to results at athletic.net, for the boys, sophomore jumper Kempton Sloan was a double winner. He won the long jump by one inch with a leap of 18 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Sloan won the triple jump by nearly two feet with a leap of 38 feet, 5 1/4 inches. He also nearly won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Also, junior Marcus Hermes won the 800-meter run in 2:15.97. Hermes was sixth in the long jump.

Junior Jacob Gromley was a winner in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 6 inches. He also claimed third in the javelin (107-10) and fourth in the discus (93-6).

Other top finishes for Troy included Gavin Bender taking third in the 110-meter hurdles and Riley Ecksted placing sixth in the discus.

For the Lady Trojans, sophomore Cortenie Rogers won the triple jump with a leap of 27 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Rogers also placed second in the long jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles.

Junior Sarah Rogers also performed well with a second place finish in the high jump, a third in the long jump and fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Freshman Jaylee Meyers had a good day, too, as she placed second in the 1,600-meter run, third in the javelin and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Troy is scheduled to compete at Bigfork on Saturday, April 8. It will compete at the Libby Invitational on Saturday, April 15.
