Local archer hopes to represent USA at 2024 Paralympic Games

Nicholas Peacock has quite the resume when it comes to archery – five-time Idaho state champion, an IFAA Board Representative for the Archers of the Inland Northwest, and a Classified Para Archer with USA Archery.

What’s next on Nic’s agenda? The 2024 Paralympic Games.

Recently, Nic was in Colorado and Nevada sharpening his skills. While in Las Vegas, Nev., Nic attended the Vegas Shoot Tournament, which draws a field of about 4,000 archers worldwide. Nic did not qualify for the championship round, which is extremely difficult in such a large field of professionals, but he scored 284 out of 300 and finished second in his flight.

“Las Vegas was so much fun. No matter what your skill level is, it was worth going just for the experience. There was a 101-year-old archer who attended and he said it was the most fun he has ever had,” Nic said.

Next, Nic is headed to Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday, April 13, where he will compete in his first United States Team Archery Tournament for points towards a placement on the USA Para Archery Team. He will be competing in the FITA-certified event at a distance of 50 meters.

“I have shot the last four days straight and have been mentally preparing for this competition. It’s not easy holding the bow up for such a long period of time. This competition means a lot to me,” Nic said.

This summer, Nic will be heading to Redding, Calif., and Chicago, Ill., for archery competitions. In Redding, he will shoot from a distance of 102 meters with an 8-inch dot; last year he missed by just one inch. Now, Nic said he’s looking to redeem himself. While in Chicago, he will have the chance to qualify for the international standards needed to compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Nicholas is currently a sponsored archer and shoots for Carnage Ridge Archery, Truball/Axcel, Feather Vision, Easton Archery and 60X Custom Strings.
