Newport board hosting calibration workshop
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 2 years, 8 months AGO
NEWPORT – The Pend Oreille County Noxious Weed Board will be hosting its first calibration workshop at 11 a.m. on April 21, 2023.
With a focus on herbicide application, this workshop will cover tank mix procedure, importance of water testing, proper application, spray nozzles, spray pattern, cleaning equipment, and more, with a live demo of backpack sprayer calibration. Anyone with a Washington State pesticide license will be able to earn one credit toward recertification. The workshop will last approximately an hour, but may go longer as Weed Board staff are more than willing to stick around for discussion/questions and answers.
This will be an outdoor, hands-on event, so it will be weather dependent. Anyone who may need a chair is encouraged to bring their own. For location details, please visit the event registration page at https://tinyurl.com/CalibrationWorkshop – registration is required. For more information, contact the Weed Board at 509-447-2402 or email [email protected].
The Weed Board is also accepting application for its Neighborhood Cost Share Program, which offers cost share options for landowners who form weed management groups at 50% of the costs, with a cap of $500 per group – individuals are eligible as well with a cap of $200. Eligible costs include applying weed prevention principles such as fertilizing, planting competitive vegetation, applying herbicides, hiring contractors and more. Applications will be accepted through April 21, but cost share funds are limited, so it is first come, first served. Applications can be found on the Weed Board website at www.pendoreilleco.org/weedboard or picked up in person at the Weed Board office, 227 S Garden Avenue, Suite B, in Newport.
