Spartans annihilated in both games of twinbill against Orofino

Priest River fell to Orofino, 10-0 and 26-2, in both games of their doubleheader at Orofino High School on Saturday, April 8.

In Game 1, Reece Deyo of Orofino pitched a no-hitter in five innings of work to secure the 10-0 victory. Of the 15 outs she helped produce, seven came via strikeout. The only blemish was an error by Deyo herself in the top of the third inning in which she dropped a pop fly.

On the mound for the Spartans, Lily Meyers went a full four innings, giving up nine runs (five earned) off nine hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Offensively, the Maniacs were able to break through in the second and third innings. They scored three in the second and four in the third. Overall, Emma Province and Brynn Hanna led the way with two hits and an RBI each. Seven different Maniacs recorded at least one hit in the contest.

Game 2 was not much better for the Spartans; Orofino piled it on with 26 runs in just four innings at the plate. The Spartans were only able to muster two runs in total. Mylie Zenner amassed three hits, six RBIs and four runs scored for the Maniacs. Jaelyn Miller also had three hits and two RBIs in the contest.

Jaylein Zylstra was on the mound for the Spartans; she gave up 20 runs (seven earned), seven hits, and seven walks, while recording three strikeouts. Meyers was eventually thrown into the game once again. Meyers gave up six runs (four earned), six hits and a walk in two full innings.

The Spartans were able to put a couple of runs on the board in the top of the first via a two-RBI single by Zylstra. Brodie Hansen had two of the four hits for the Spartans, including a double. Meyers chipped in a single.

Orofino’s Hanna Johnson pitched a complete game giving up just two runs, four hits and a walk while recording seven strikeouts.

The Spartans will be back in action Friday, April 21, for an in-conference doubleheader at Bonners Ferry.
