The impending financial crisis the Coeur d'Alene School District will face if the upcoming $25 million-per-year, two-year supplemental levy fails will be the main subject Tuesday at a special meeting of the school board.

A public comment session will be held during the meeting, which will be at 5 p.m. at Midtown Meeting Center, 1505 N. Fifth St., Coeur d'Alene. Those giving public comment will be limited to one comment not to exceed three minutes. Comments may also be emailed to [email protected] at any time.

Coeur d'Alene School District Community Relations Director Stefany Bales said Friday the purpose of the special meeting "is to provide community members the opportunity to share with the board their thoughts on how to resolve the district's financial challenges should the supplemental funding levy fail on May 16."

"Comments should be focused on that topic," she said.

The board has several upcoming meetings on the calendar, also at Midtown Meeting Center:

• April 21: Special meeting, noon

• May 8: Regular meeting, 5 p.m.

• May 17: Special meeting, 5:30 p.m.

• May 22: Board workshop, 4 p.m.

• May 30: Special meeting, 5 p.m.

Also, the district's long-range planning committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday to discuss the draft policy regarding school restroom and changing facility access and overnight lodging; a levy update from Superintendent Shon Hocker and a "Where do we go from here?" discussion led by committee Chair Lindsey Swingrover; and an update on the Coeur Terre development presented by Operations Director Jeff Voeller.
