COLUMBIA BASIN – Competition on baseball and softball diamonds across the Basin is heating up as teams enter the final month of the regular season. See below for an update on how local baseball and softball teams fared in last week’s games. All scores are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Baseball
The Warriors remained undefeated with four wins in doubleheaders against Curlew and Northport last week. ACH first defeated Curlew 10-0 and 21-1 in a doubleheader on Tuesday before sweeping Northport, who was 9-1 entering the weekend, on Saturday with 10-0 and 7-4 wins. ACH is 7-0 on the year and 6-0 in league contests. This week's schedule for the Warriors is home doubleheaders against Columbia (Hunters) on Tuesday and Odessa on Saturday.
Softball
Similar to the Warrior baseball team, the ACH softball team also swept through Northport over the weekend with 10-4 and 10-7 wins. The games were the first for ACH softball since April 1, and they now possess a 5-1 overall record. ACH travels to Waterville-Mansfield for a doubleheader on Tuesday before a home doubleheader against Inchelium on Saturday.
Ephrata
Baseball
The Tigers suffered three losses last week, the first being 16-2 on the road against Tri-Cities Prep on Tuesday. In a doubleheader against Ellensburg on Saturday, Ephrata fell 1-0 and 10-2 to the Bulldogs. Ephrata hosts three non-league matchups this week, the first against College Place on Tuesday before a doubleheader against Brewster on Saturday.
Softball
Ephrata’s softball team finished the week 2-2 to move its record to 8-4 this season, including a 5-3 record in Central Washington Athletic Conference games. The Tigers first swept Selah in a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning 3-2 and 16-3 over the Vikings. In a road doubleheader against Othello on Saturday, the Tigers lost 7-6 and 16-6 to the Huskies. This week, Ephrata will host Ellensburg for a doubleheader on Thursday before a home doubleheader against Quincy on Saturday.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
Baseball
The Broncos got their first league win of the season last week, winning the nightcap of a doubleheader on Tuesday against Liberty (Spange) 13-5. LRS fell in the first game 7-4. This week, LRS will host Jenkins (Chewelah) for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Softball
LRS went 3-1 last week, first splitting a doubleheader against Liberty (Spangle) with a 3-2 win before a 9-2 loss to the Lancers. On Saturday, the Broncos swept Davenport with 21-3 and 19-8 wins over the Gorillas. The LRS softball team will also host Jenkins (Chewelah) for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Moses Lake
Baseball
The Mavericks, 10-2 this season, had the week off last week but will return to the diamond for three games against Davis this week. Moses Lake first travels to Yakima to play the Pirates on Tuesday before hosting Davis in a doubleheader on Friday.
Softball
Moses Lake suffered its second setback of the season with an 11-9 loss to Richland last week, a game where the Mavs nearly overcame an 11-0 deficit. The Mavs will travel to Davis for a doubleheader against the Pirates on Friday.
MLCA/CCS
Baseball
The Lions got their first win of the season last week with a 13-8 win over Cascade (Leavenworth), the first of a doubleheader against the Kodiaks. MLCA/CCS fell in the second game 7-5. On Saturday, the Lions suffered 16-1 and 18-6 road losses to Riverside Christian. The Lions will travel to Pateros for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Othello
Baseball
After falling 6-5 to Hazen on Thursday, the Huskies rallied by sweeping a doubleheader against Prosser on Saturday, winning 20-1 and 10-5 over the Mustangs. Othello, now 9-6, will host Grandview for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Softball
The Huskies put together back-to-back wins over Ephrata on Saturday, winning 7-6 and 16-6, and have now won five-straight games after their three-game losing streak to non-league opponents. Othello (11-3) will play a road doubleheader against Prosser on Saturday.
Quincy
Baseball
The Jacks fell in three games last week, first a 12-2 loss in a home standalone game against Cashmere on Tuesday. In Saturday’s doubleheader against Chelan, Quincy fell 6-0 and 5-3 to the Mountain Goats. Quincy will travel to Cascade (Leavenworth) for a game on Wednesday before a road doubleheader against Cashmere on Saturday.
Softball
Quincy (9-1) continued its strong start to the season with three-straight wins this week. The Jacks defeated Cashmere 8-7 at home on Tuesday before sweeping Chelan 22-1 and 21-0 in a Saturday doubleheader. This week, Quincy travels to Cascade (Leavenworth) and Cashmere for doubleheaders on Tuesday and Saturday, respectively.
Royal
Baseball
The Knights went 3-1 last week, first by sweeping a doubleheader against Zillah with 11-3 and 5-4 wins over the Leopards. In Saturday’s doubleheader on the road against Kiona-Benton City, Royal first fell 23-0 before winning 9-4 in the nightcap. Royal will travel to Naches Valley on Saturday for a doubleheader.
Softball
The Royal softball team also swept Zillah in a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning 15-0 in both outings. The Knights (10-1) have the week off after a doubleheader against Naches Valley was canceled.
Wahluke
Baseball
The Warriors played two road doubleheaders last week, first falling 10-0 and 11-1 to Warden on Tuesday before 3-0 and 11-1 losses to Connell on Saturday. Wahluke will host Kiona-Benton City for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Softball
Wahluke will return to the field on Saturday after a 22-day hiatus, hosting Kiona-Benton City.
Warden
Baseball
After sweeping Wahluke with 10-0 and 11-1 wins on Tuesday, the Cougars moved their winning streak to five with back-to-back wins over Dayton-Waitsburg in Saturday’s doubleheader, winning 18-5 and 22-0 over the Wolfpack. Warden (9-4) travels to Connell for a standalone game on Tuesday before hosting Tri-Cities Prep for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Softball
The undefeated Cougars swept Saturday’s doubleheader against Dayton-Waitsburg with 21-2 and 25-10 wins over the Wolfpack, moving Warden to 9-0 this season. Warden will host Tri-Cities Prep for a doubleheader on Saturday.
