SANDPOINT — The Bulldogs lost two games to Post Falls on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader at War Memorial Field. Sandpoint lost the first game 15-2 and the second game 20-2.

In Game 1, the Bulldogs were within reach of the Trojans for most of the outing. After three full innings, the Bulldogs were only down three runs, 4-1. Sandpoint’s Mayle Ducken recorded the Bulldogs’ lone RBI in the bottom of the third when she hit a single to center field that scored Ali Knowles.

On the mound, Ducken also helped Sandpoint stay close with some great pitching against the Trojans. She recorded four strikeouts over six full innings in the circle.

In the top of the sixth, the Trojans plated nine runs, which ultimately put the game out of reach. Lexie McCarroll led the rally for the Trojans with an RBI double to left field that scored two runs; she also recorded nine strikeouts for the Trojans on the mound.

In the bottom half of the inning, Sandpoint’s Ashyln Darling singled to right field, but the Bulldogs could not score any runs in order to escape the mercy rule.

In Game 2, the Bulldogs once again kept the game close until late. Ashlyn Darling was dealing on the mound early; she pitched four innings and only gave up one earned run on five hits, four walks and two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first, thanks to singles by Kaylee McCown and Peyton Cessna, Darling was able to put the ball in play to secure Sandpoint’s first run of the contest. Sandpoint wouldn’t strike again until the bottom of the sixth when Mayle Ducken hit another RBI single to center field to put the score at 8-2 for the Trojans.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs had another late-inning blemish when they gave up 12 runs in the top of seventh inning. The Trojans’ Katie Berg and Eden Nye both hit RBI singles in the inning; they led the Trojans in Game 2 with three hits and three RBIs apiece.

Overall, Sandpoint had a better game at the plate in Game 2. McCown and Cessna had two hits each. Ducken and Darling both added a hit and RBI to their season totals. Rounding out the box score was Cadence Skibitsky and Sara Bryson who also contributed singles of their own.

“It has been a long time since our program has gone nearly all 14 innings of a doubleheader against a 5A school. We can see our players' mental and emotional toughness improving every game, and Saturday was no exception. Our goal in our next game is to continue to grow mentally and emotionally, so we can perform at a high level throughout the entire game,” coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said.

Sandpoint (0-11) will travel to Spirit Lake on Tuesday, April 18 where they will take on their first 3A opponent of the season at 4 p.m. versus Timberlake.
