As the season moves forward, Whitefish track and field athletes continue to post fast times on the track.

The track and field team competed in the Flathead Time Trials in Kalispell as well as the MCPS Invite in Missoula last week. Both were meets that placed Whitefish against top Class A and AA schools.

The Whitefish girls were successful yet again in both the long and short relays. The girls won both events in Kalispell and placed second to Class AA schools in Missoula.

“The girls continue to improve every week, which is awesome,” Whitefish girls track coach Matt Beckwith said. “That’s where we want to be as a team and we just want to get better every day. We’ve had some really awesome results.”

The sprinter trio of Brooke Zetooney, Hailey Ells and Rachel Wilmot continue to see success in the 100 and 200 meter events. In Kalispell, for the 100, Zetooney, Ells and Wilmot took the top three spots, respectively. Wilmot also placed second in the 200, finishing just behind Ally Semph from Columbia Falls. Ells blew the competition away in the 300 meter hurdles, taking first with a time of 48.54.

At the MCPS, an invite that features over 20 schools across all classes, Zetooney tied for second in the 100 with a season-best time of 12.70 seconds; the winner, Logan Todorovich of Helena, ran it in 12.69. Wilmot placed fifth in the 100 and Zetooney and Ells took the top two spots in the 200. Zetooney ran the 200 in the slower heat and still managed to win the event just running against herself.

“As a trio, they are super competitive,” Beckwith said. “They want to compete with each other and they’re happy about each other’s success, but they’re there to push each other every day. They’ve been really fun to watch.”

Others on the team also had good performances last week. Whitefish’s Maeve Ingelfinger ran a personal best in both the 800 and 1600 at the MCPS Invite; she took sixth in the 800 and fourth in the 1600. In Kalispell, Drew Steele threw 76-11 in discus to take fifth place and Kristina Shestak had a javelin throw of 93-04 for fifth place. Norah Schmidt PR’d in the triple jump for fourth place.

For the boys, Whitefish’s Azure Stolte had a season-best time in the 400 at 55.55 seconds for third place at the Flathead Time Trials.

Also in Kalispell, Mason Genovese took fourth in the 800, Ethan Amick was fourth in the 1600, and Deneb Linton and Nate Ingelfinger both recorded season-best times in the 3200 to take second and third place respectively. Kitar Olsen threw 116-08 in discus for fourth place and in pole vault, Bowdrie Krack had a season-best 10-06 for third.
