Over the last week, the Spartans traveled to three different track and field meets — Cheney, Colville, and Kellogg.

On Wednesday, April 12, Priest River swept their competition in a “double dual” meet between Kellogg and St. Maries. The girls defeated Kellogg 100-36 and St. Maries 93-52. The boys defeated Kellogg 76-64 and St. Maries 83-59.

“It was a great day for contributions up and down the lineup. Twenty-eight of our 31 competing kids scored at least six team points. The three kids that didn't score still had great days as all three had multiple personal bests,” head coach Jared Hughes said.

Matyus McLain, Maicie Archer, and Allyson Dickinson all had perfect scores of 40 points each; they won all the events they competed in. Other top contributors include: Hadassah Davis 36, Carter Korff 30, Anna Deem 29 and Ethan Korff 29.

On Saturday, April 15, the team split up to attend two different meets, one in Colville and another in Cheney.

“Overall, 27 out of 30 participants between both the meets had at least one season or lifetime best. What a great testament to the hard work going on by our athletes and coaches,” Hughes said.

At the Ezra Gordon Invitational in Colville, the girls took home first place with 178 total points; the men placed fourth with 76 points. All 24 Spartans scored team points and/or led their team in their respective events at the meet.

On the girls side, five Spartans had first place finishes, Hadassah Davis – 100 meters, Maicie Archer – 200m, Rebecca Sedbrook – Discus, Kyle Swoboda – High Jump, and Marley Burgess-Duquette – Pole Vault. In the 4x100 meter relay, Maicie Archer, Haley Braae, Hadassah Davis, Allyson Dickinson also placed first.

For the boys, Jacob Sateren placed second in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. Carter Korff finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

While most of the team was at Colville, six other athletes attended the Van Kuren Invitational in Cheney.

Matyus McLain led the way with a first place throw of 155-11 in the discus throw, just three inches off the Priest River school record. He also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 50-7. Brayden Lamanna placed 13th in a stacked 3200-meter field with a time 10:37.04.

Allyson Dickinson placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.71; she also had top 10 finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

The Spartans next meet will be the 26th annual Priest River Invitational on Saturday, April 22nd. Spartan seniors will be honored just prior to the 10 a.m. meet start time.
